PLUK was founded by parents who felt strongly that parents of children with disabilities need to band together to give each other information and support. It seemed foolish for each new parent to try to learn all over again what other parents already know and would willingly share. It also seemed important for parents to lend each other support because of the healing that takes place when people who share a common problem can work together to find solutions.

The Disabilities Rights Center (DRC) is New Hampshire's designated Protection and Advocacy agency and authorized by federal statute "to pursue legal, administrative and other appropriate remedies" on behalf of individuals with disabilities. The DRC is a statewide organization that is independent from state government or service providers.

The Connecticut Juvenile Justice Alliance (CTJJA) was launched in November 2001 as a collaborative effort of the Center for Children's Advocacy, Connecticut Voices for Children, RYASAP, and The Tow Foundation.

The Indiana Prevention Resource Center currently provides these services for SPF-SIG, Drug Free Communities, and Department of Education grantees.

The BIANH was founded in 1983 by NH parents seeking to bring home their brain injured children from out of state nursing homes.
