The Power Of A Proper Diet

May 30th, 2008

You may not know this, but a good diet can keep your teeth and gums looking healthy and strong. Studies show that fluoride can help fight tooth decay by reducing the rate of cativies by a whopping 60 percent.

Reportedly, facts obtained from recent studies also show that parents can start taking care of their child’s teeth by maintaining a proper diet during pregnancy. Specifically, foods that are rich in Calcium , like dairy products, canned salmon, fish, almonds, and green and leafy vegetables are encouraged. Foods that are rich in Vitamin D, such as milk and rice beverages are also advised. Moderate exposure to the sun is also a good source of Vitamin D.

Because children and teens are most likely to indulge in eating sweets and junks, parents are advised to look after the foods that their children eat because unhealthy food choices are filled with elements that would make your child prone to tooth decay. Moreover, parents should be aware of foods that seem “safe”, but are actually as worse as junks and sweets. Dried fruits, which have high sugar content, are perfect examples of the foods that are not recommended.

On a last note, let us not forget that dental hygiene is also an important part of the regimen. Brushing the teeth after meals and using dental floss are traditional ways of keeping your child’s teeth and gums healthy and strong.

Teen Stressors

May 30th, 2008

Teens should veer away from too much stress because too much stress can cause a great strain to their physical, emotional, and mental capacities. There are several factors that cause stress to teens. According to studies, there is a tie between school work and parents as the most common cause of stress in teens. In spite of this fact, the studies also show that it is also the parents, or the immediate family members of the stressed out teen, who support and tries to help their teens manage stress. The second, third, and fourth most common stress ors are romantic relationships, problems with friends, and problems with siblings, respectively.

Reportedly, girls are more affected by stress than boys are. This is attributed to the society’s different expectations of both men and women. Girls are known to cope with stress by seeking help through having an open communication with friends or family members. They also cope with stress by finding ways to vent out their stress, through relaxation. Meanwhile, boys are said to cope with stress by channeling their energies to a physical activity like sports and other recreation. A common method employed by boys and girls in dealing with stress is by engaging their minds in other matters in order to keep themselves preoccupied.

  3. Rest wellResting well is a good technique in managing stress because a stressed-out person is not very productive. Plus, too much stress and too little rest is a bad combination: It will definitely take its toll on your body.
  4. RelaxRelaxing is another way of resting. By relaxing, one can release the negative energies caused by stress. It is good for attaining a better sense of well-being.
  5. Indulge yourselfIndulge in simple pleasures to reward yourself when you finish one task so that you have something to look forward to, instead of finishing your tasks just for the sake of saying that you are done with it.
  6. Eat rightEating right is equally important because if you do not eat the right kind and amount of foods, your body will not feel well enough to work well.

May 30th, 2008

Stress is often inevitably perceived on a negative note. Understandably, stress is something that people do not welcome. Indeed, stress can be very frustrating and tiring. However, one should not discount the fact that stress can also be perceived on a positive note because stress is also one of the reasons behind people’s rise to excellence. This is due to the stress hormones that the body releases to keep our minds and bodies alert and ready for action.

Moreover, recent studies on the positive effects of stress shows that stress can be used to stimulate one’s faculties in order to achieve better results in an endeavor for excellence. Stress can be used for better performance.

May 30th, 2008

With this came the concern on finding out the issues involved in teenage sexuality; thus, facts on teenage sexual behavior started to catch the interest of experts on the field of psychology.

But certain problems are bound to arise because our cultural norms make it somewhat unacceptable to discuss issues about sex as if we are merely talking about climate change. Most people ten to keep their silence on issues regarding teenage sex, as if sex is truly a sore tpic, especially because it involves young adults who should not have been engaging in.

This entry is not about statistics, but rather, on the problems that hinder the production of relevant statistics.

First and foremost, it is important to note that statistics on teens’ sexual behaviors may not be as reliable as other statistics because admittedly, people have a tendency not to answer honestly when inquiries about their sexual experiences are being made. Second, lack of representation is also considered a problem because some parents veto their sons’ and daughters’ involvement with studies relating to sex. Lastly, categorizing a teen is also challenging.

Media Influence and Sexual Behaviors

May 30th, 2008

The shift from childhood to adulthood is a very critical period for teens of this day and age. While while they were still young, kids have already been exposed to shows, movies, and magazines that inculcated a mindset that thrives on “sex appeal” as an indispensable quality that young adults should strive to possess. Thus, the consequences are that as the children grow up towards the pre-adolescence stage, they are already exposed, and somewhat encouraged, to follow this particular trend.

The fact that the young ones are being bombarded with adult content have imbibed in them an altogether different set of values about sex and beliefs and values with regards to sex.

On the average, it was found that music videos contain about an estimated 93 sexual situations in an hour, including scenes that unmistakably depict intercourse and oral sex.

True enough, the frequency of the available means for teens to get exposed to sex and pornography are directly related to the influx of sexually active teens nowadays. Parents are those advised to see to it that they guide their teens accordingly, just so their teens can avoid problems such as STD’s and unwanted pregnancies.
